Daniel Jones, a JET in Sendai started The Sendai City Comic Contest in 2012 with a small grant from TAMF. The goals of the contest are to motivate students to express themselves creatively in English, and to provide a forum for students to express themselves and share ideas in English The winner receive Taylor Anderson trophies which are displayed at their school for the year. 2014 was the third year of the contest and we received this report from Eric Clark, A Sendai JET Education Advisor for the Sendai Board of Education and former JET Program participant: “We received a total of 1083 entries from 38 schools. There were a total of 18 awards given. We were all very happy to see over double the entries from the previous years. The ALTs promoted the contest in their respective schools (64 schools in total) and helped students make comics both in and outside of class. Having completed three successful years of the comic contest, we are looking forward to a fourth contest year and new possibilities”.
