“Students from Taylor’s Alma Mater Viisit Ishinomaki To See The Place She Loved With Their Own Eyes

14 students from Ms. Taylor Anderson’s alma mater, Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, USA, came to visit the Ishinomaki area on January 22nd and 23rd. They visited the Onagawa Seapal Pier shopping precinct and Ishinomaki Newsee to follow Taylor’s footsteps.

Their visit to Ishinomaki is a part of study/travel courses that the College offers for students to learn about other cultures overseas. Taylor Anderson Memorial Fund, which was founded by her family after the 3.11 earthquake and tsunami, also supported their visit. Taylor herself also participated in a study/travel course offered by R-MC back in 2007, which led her to work in Japan after graduation.

These students arrived in Japan on January 7th (I am afraid this is incorrect information…) and visited the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima and watched a Kabuki performance in Tokyo prior to their visit in Ishionomaki. It is the College’s third time to bring a group of students here as part of their academic program. The student participants toured around the region and learned about Japanese history and culture while gaining a deep understanding of the recovery process of the affected areas after 3.11.
