Kahoku Shimpo local newspaper. Randolph-Macon College students visited Ishinomaki Senshu University to attend M’s Japan Orchestra’s Wadaiko Drum workshop. Taylor practiced Wadaiko drum on March 10, 2011, one day before the earthquake. Mr. Ajun Doraquia, RMC sophomore says “it was my first time to play Wadaiko drum. It was exciting. I would like to learn more about this culture.”

We enjoyed Wadaiko drum workshop, learned how the music group M’s Japan helped orphans to move forward, enjoyed sightseeing in reborn Onagawa station shopping mall, visited the Endos house and briefly helped Mrs. Endo’s new fantastic project and then visited Newsee to learn how people are doing now after 6 years.
続きを読むWe received an English translation from the US Embassy of the Nikkei newspaper article by Hiroki Kuniya: “There is a fund set up by the parents of a woman who died in the devastating tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Taylor Anderson came from America to teach English at local nursery, elementary and junior high schools in Ishinomaki. In remembrance of Taylor, who aspired to become a bridge between Japan and the U.S., her parents launched the Taylor Anderson Memorial Fund. The fund collects children’s books written in English, using contributions made to it and sets up the Taylor Anderson Memorial Reading Corner, or “Taylor bunko,” at local schools ...

続きを読むSoyokaze and E-kids have a special reading hour for 2nd graders at Mangokuura Elementary School. The volunteers set up four reading stations at each corner of the gym and the 60 2nd graders ran from one to the other to experience all four. The student in the news story says “It’s my first time to listen to children’s books in English, so I’m very happy!” Everyone was happy!
